what now

Dim lights, slightly slanted office chair, sitting, legs on table, door slightly opened, RnB music, both hands placed at the back of my head and just staring at the ceiling...

Those are one of my moments in Phil, in our place. This wasn't an emo moment at all. When this happens, my head just flies out the door and i leave my body and imagine, plan, go back on stuff. Spans from, everyday activity, relationship, future, just being thankful with what I got. It was a really nice feeling. Whatever the reason may be, it's a moment I cherish, I enjoy and I'm comfortable with.

I may not have the office chair, the table, and not to mention that door (that leads to the streets right away lol) but I still get those moments still.

Dining table, my laptop, dim lights, just a lamp shade and another ambient light, headset, itunes on "end of the road" by boys II men (though i'm not complaining about relationships at this point; it's just good melody)...perfect...

Currently, it's relationships, just being thankful with what i got, quick flashbacks of my memories in phil, curiousity how phil is going right now, how my friends are, if they're still hanging out since they all got partners already, how it will be when i go back, will i be with someone when i get back, and well,,, her, lol!

I'm so proud of myself now with what i've become. I don't even know what the fuck I'm saying right now lol. There's a lot of things in my head don't know where to draw the starting line.

This is because of sleeping around 5-6ish and waking up around 9pm and now i'm like...."what now..."

change of...culture; yes, culture

It all started with the thought of starbuck's while trying to fall asleep. stomach grumbled and I totally lost my drowsiness. With Starbuck's in my head, it kind of reminded me how North America has a strong influence over Asia. Well, I'll just speak from my experience and from what I know- North America has a strong influence over Philippines. I've thought of how people would attempt to "hang out" in Starbuck's for all the wrong reasons. Sometimes, they just go there to flash what they got. Sometimes people would stay and make it their hangout spot without purchasing anything at all. I told you, all the wrong reasons. At the back of Starbuck's head, I'm pretty sure all they wanted to do is to deliver the best quality coffee; nothing else. No cultural sovereignty, no teen culture, nothing.

Unfortunately, that's what's happening. And to make it lighter for the filipinos out there, it also exists here. People flash their keys, and all the stuff I said. but, point is, going back to the Philippine setting, North America has quite an influence over you. Just think about facebook. Ever since, up until two years back, Philippines was for friendster. Now, facebook. Yes actually facebook is better but honestly, facebook was the social network of the west while friendster was for asia. Now, Phil adapted facebook.

Now sometimes we share a culture; sometimes we're just pressured into it, like what I've mentioned above. But actually sometimes, it helps.

As a person who understands transnationalism, I would say I've shared more than a few cultures here and there. Consider also that our country has multiculturalism act, we've come a long way. By having these multiple experiences with different cultures, I've managed to compare both the western and Philippines' culture (take note: philippines, not all the filipinos around the world). This also allowed me to conjure unbiased thoughts and opinions from both cultures then a while ago i said, "hey, why not fix whatever's...off with the Philippines' culture and try to mix it up with the setting here and you know, make it better?" Here's what I mean:

1.) >>>PAYING UP<<<
ladies you know I love so much but I just gotta let this out for everyone to learn from it.
In Philippines, when a guy goes out with a girl, whether it be just friends or for relationships especially on a date, when the bill comes, the guy is OBLIGATED to pay even for his partner. Somehow, it has become an accepted culture there. You're not really required, but there, it would give off the impression that you can't "take care" of your partner thus giving you a hard time on trying to front with a girl.

Here, it's the opposite. Everybody pays for themselves. KKB as we would say. Sexy girl or not, they'd pay for their own stuff. AND IT IS JUST LOGICAL AND PRACTICAL. I think if you would let North America influence you, might as well let this behavior come in first before anything else. because again, it's logical and practical. Can you, the girl, not pay for yourself? If you can't that's understandable but if that's the case, I suggest you settle your financial issues first before you go on a date alright hun?

Plus, if you pay yourself, not only would it help the guy but it'll show that you are independent; You can take care of yourself, which should be the case. right? Also, think of it this way, given a limited fund, if your guy pays for you as well, instead of being able to go out with him twice, you've just cut it down to one. get it?

2.) >>>Fast Food Trays<<<
In Phil, you go to a fast food, say...Mcdonald's, you'd come up to the counter, order your food, the staff puts everything on your tray, you get the tray, you sit down, you get all your food and drinks OFF the tray, put it on the table, scatter everything THEN reach out and extend to the nearest empty table where you can place your tray. Now there's something wrong with that. I don't know if that was the sole intention of the inventor of fast food tray - just for collectively carrying stuff. Either way, North America has a better way of utilizing it which I think should be adapted as well.
(actually all that i'll post here are the practices I think Philippines should adapt)

HERE in CA, you get your stuff from the counter (on a tray), you sit down and you eat ON your tray. See how practical that is? Why have we not thought of that before. Because right now in phil, by the end your meal, crumbs, spills, stains, mess; everything will be all over the table because we don't use the tray. If you did, like what people here do, you'd basically get everything on the tray. Not only does it look neat and cleaner, you also had the courtesy of keeping it clean for the next person to use it. rrrrrrrright? So come on, do this....

It doesn't end there. In Phil, it's culturally injected in the job description of fast food staff that they'd have to clean after their customer's mess. I forgot to mention that in Phil, once they're done they just leave. (yes they pay, but i mean they don't tidy their table up after). This is because they think it is expected for the staff to clean it up. Okay, one, you're just fucking lazy; two, people do those because they have a mentality "meh, that's their job, that's what we pay them for" which is sooo not cool; three, it looks so irresponsible now come to think of it.

Because here you eat ON your tray, and all the mess is just on your tray afterwards. Upon leaving, we gather all the mess, carry the tray with all the mess and personally throw it in the garbage. Again, it's just logical, practical, and not to mention clean. Now why doesn't Phil do this? I don't know. Maybe not YET.

3.) >>>Escalators<<<
Here, once you step on an escalators, most of the time, people would stand on the right side and leave the left open. Now I thought previously this was just in Japan, but no, here as well; Awesome. If you still don't know why people do this, it's basically the same as a "highway principle". Slow moving lane is on the right, fast moving vehicles inside on the left side. Makes sense right? Makes sense not just for cars but for people too. This is act to show courtesy to those who are in a hurry and logically, if you're not in a hurry and you're just standing there, why hog the whole step right? that's stupid. Here's another one for ya...

4.)>>>"psssssssst"<<<
There's a joke here in Canada: "How can you spot a filipino in a midst of a crowd?(yes you know how a filipino looks like but here, sometimes we're confused with other asian nationalities because sometimes we do look alike with them) Easy. "sumitsit ka" (do the "pssssst" sound) if they look back at you, you know they're a filipino"

Why? because that's a fucking accepted culture once again. Here, that sound is used to grab attention of your pets: dogs or cats. Now are you a pet? Actually, am I fucking pet? No right? so don't fucking "sitsit" at me. First, it's disrespectful; second, it sounds weird for non-filipinos; third, when was this internationally accepted? oh i don't know, when people try to cheat in tests!

Personally, it's just bad...sounds bad. everybody has a name so why make a sound? Personally, my first name's syllable is shorter and faster than that sound so why bother right? To make you understand, switch sides. Experience a day where you're only "sitsit"-ed upon, not called by your name. What more is, if a stranger calls you through that.........Irritating right?

Unfortunately, I had to talk about the practices of my own culture. But do remember, this is not to diss us sexy filipinos. I had the sincerest intentions with all that I've written here to make stuff easier, better, more practical and more logical. Also, it is just my opinion which means, it's not a fact, so don't flame me ok? Also, it doesn't apply to all, but i'm pretty sure EVERY filipino (at least those who grew up in phil) got hit by at least one of the stuff I said up there and felt guilty. Honestly I was too. That's why I've changed.

Like Facebook and Starbuck's, I hope this spreads out and gets practiced by all. It may be tough at first, but hey, look at those posers in Starbuck's and all those people who joined facebook because they think it's cool and hip. Suddenly, this change looked way too easy to spread right? more to come when i remember the rest...

Spread it out, be the change. Help our culture one practice at a time.

food for thought: for you to choke on

You're gonna get puzzled at this...

Look at your keyboard. Here's a basic computer mystery...

WHY IS THE CAPS LOCK BUTTON SO BIG?

It's not as important as backspace or return(enter) button...so why?
